NWW (New Work Wednesday) – going mysterious

Obviously Winter is here. I know because my paintings have changed – quite without making a conscious decision – from the joy, colour and lively movement of Spring to the darker, moody colours and mysterious light of winter.

It wasn’t even a gradual change. It seemed to happen overnight, much like the falling dark of an Australian Summer. This involuntary change has made me realise that I am very responsive to my environment. I had an “Ah Ha!” moment when the darker palette arrived. It explained the dark and figurative works from my residency in Spain (see Comfort Zone works Shimmer and Drop etc) .But I am enjoying being slower, feeling the paint with my brush, layering translucent colours, and hunkering down at night in front of an open fire with a glass of mulled wine. Well, occasionally, anyway.

I think Winter is a fabulous time, do you?
